Statistik, Geschichte und Geschichtswissenschaft. Eine Analyse des Verhältnisses und Gedanken zur Aufarbeitung

Abstract

Das Verhältnis von Geschichtswissenschaft und Statistik ist derzeit verbesserungswürdig. Der Beitrag versucht, diesen Befund in zwei Schritten zu erklären: Als erstes wird die Geschichte der Geschichtswissenschaft als Begründung angeführt, die verschiedenen Moden unterlag und zurzeit einer elaborierten Arbeit mit Statistiken eher kritisch gegenübersteht. Eine zweite Erklärung wird in der Geschichte der Statistik beziehungsweise von Statistikern und Statistikerinnen in den beiden deutschen Diktaturen des 20. Jahrhunderts vermutet. Eingebettet in eine Analyse der bisherigen sogenannten Behördenforschung wird als Fazit eine Erforschung der 1990er-Jahre vorgeschlagen, um Forschung und Selbsterkundung der Behörden in Form von Citizen Science zu verbinden.
