Abstract

Der Beitrag liefert Hintergrundinformationen zur Sonderauswertung der Sterbefallzahlen 2020 aus Anlass der Corona-Pandemie. Sterbefallzahlen werden seit Mitte April 2020 mit einem Zeitverzug von etwa vier Wochen zum Sterbegeschehen in Form von Rohdaten tagesgenau zur Verfügung gestellt. Durch eine Beschreibung der Hintergrundprozesse bei der Erhebung von Sterbefällen werden diese Rohdaten von den regulären Sterbefalldaten abgegrenzt. Zudem liefert der Artikel Informationen zum Konzept der Übersterblichkeit. Er ordnet die Entwicklungen im Jahr 2020 im Vergleich der Vorjahre ein und beantwortet die Frage, ob ein Zusammenhang mit der CoronaPandemie naheliegend ist.
