Säuglingssterblichkeit in Deutschland nach 1990

Abstract

Der Beitrag analysiert die Entwicklung der Säuglingssterblichkeit in Deutschland seit der deutschen Vereinigung. Er ordnet die Sterblichkeit im ersten Lebensjahr international ein und betrachtet sie im Zusammenhang mit wichtigen Einflussfaktoren wie der medizinischen Versorgung. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf dem Vergleich der neuen Länder mit dem früheren Bundesgebiet. Hier haben sich die Verhältnisse von 1990 umgekehrt. Die neuen Länder weisen bereits seit 20 Jahren eine niedrigere Säuglingssterblichkeit auf als das frühere Bundesgebiet. Zudem liefert der Artikel eine Zusammenstellung der relevanten Definitionen, der methodischen Hintergründe sowie die Beschreibung eines Ansatzes, mit dem sich zuverlässig Säuglingssterbewahrscheinlichkeiten für Kalenderjahre berechnen lassen.
