Das Leistungsbilanzdefizit der USA: Fundamentale Fehlentwicklung?

Abstract

Das amerikanische Leistungsbilanzdefizit ist wieder in die Diskussion geraten. Von manchen Beobachtern wird seine Höhe als Hauptursache für den Kursrückgang des Dollar gesehen, der die amerikanische Währung seit April dieses Jahres gegenüber dem Euro rund 8½% seines Wertes gekostet hat. Der Kursrückgang ist zwar außenhandelsgewichtet und preisbereinigt mit nur knapp einem Prozent geringer, dennoch mehren sich die Warnungen, dass mit weitreichenden Konsequenzen für die USA und die Weltwirtschaft zu rechnen sei. Welche fundamentalen Entwicklungen stehen hinter dem US-Leistungsbilanzdefizit, und geben sie Anlass zu spürbaren Anpassungsreaktionen?
