70 Jahre RWI Konjunkturberichte: Aus der Frühzeit der Konjunkturforschung am RWI

Abstract

Genau vor siebzig Jahren wurde das erste Heft der RWI Konjunkturberichte veröffentlicht. Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über das erste Jahrzehnt dieser Berichte. Mit Blick auf die empirischen Grundlagen zeigt sich, dass diese auf einen überraschend großen und aktuellen Datenfundus zurückgreifen konnten. Die Volkswirtschaftlichen Gesamtrechnungen allerdings, heute Kern jeder Konjunkturanalyse, fanden erst nach und nach Eingang in die Analysen. Thematisch setzten die Berichte, der Lage des RWI im Ruhrgebiet geschuldet, einen Schwerpunkt bei den Energiemärkten und dem Stahlmarkt. In sich geschlossene Ausführungen zur Konjunktur im Ausland fehlen hingegen lange Jahre weitgehend. Die prognostische Aussagen sind stets qualitativer Natur. Erste Prognosen 'in Zahlen' gibt es seitens des RWI erst in den späten sechziger Jahren. Die wirtschaftstheoretische Ausrichtung ist undogmatisch und nach vielen Seiten hin offen.
