Verlangsamte Expansion des Welthandels? Empirische Evidenz und mögliche Ursachen

Abstract

Die Expansion des Welthandels hat sich in den vergangenen zwei Jahren stark verlangsamt. Übertraf der Welthandel in den Jahren vor der Großen Rezession das Wachstum der weltwirtschaftlichen Produktion noch um annähernd das Doppelte, nahm er in 2012 und 2013 sogar schwächer zu als das Welt-BIP. Mit der Erholung der Weltwirtschaft und insbesondere der Euro-Raum-Länder dürfte der Welthandel wieder stärker zulegen, allerdings wohl nicht mehr in dem Maße wie vor der Krise. So dürften die Effekte der Liberalisierung, die den Welthandel in der Vergangenheit getrieben haben, weitgehend ausgeschöpft sein; und auch die Schwellenländer, allen voran China, scheinen einen etwas moderateren Wachstumspfad eingeschlagen zu haben. Darüber hinaus hat es möglicherweise strukturell bedingte Nachfrageverschiebungen in einigen Schwellenländern hin zu inländischen Produkten gegeben, die den Welthandel längerfristig dämpfen dürften.
