Zehn Jahre Osterweiterung der Europäischen Union

Abstract

Mit dem Beitritt zur Europäischen Union im Jahr 2004 wurden zehn neue Mitgliedstaaten in den europäischen Binnenmarkt integriert. Der Warenaustausch intensivierte sich bereits vor dem Beitritt deutlich, da die meisten Zölle und nicht-tarifären Handelshemmnisse schon in den 1990er Jahren zwischen der EU und den Beitrittskandidaten abgebaut wurden. Die Direktinvestitionen aus den EU-15-Ländern in die zehn neuen Mitgliedstaaten stiegen nach dem Beitritt deutlich an. Nach der EU-Erweiterung nahm das Konvergenztempo des Pro-Kopf-Bruttoinlandsprodukts merklich zu. Dazu dürfte auch die wachsende Einbindung in die EU-Kohäsionspolitik beigetragen haben. Die Freizügigkeit für Personen wurde in einem überschaubaren Ausmaß genutzt.
