Deutschlands Ausstattung mit Humankapital: Ergebnisse des IW-Humankapitalindikators

Abstract

Humankapital spielt eine wichtige Rolle für die technologische Wettbewerbsfähigkeit eines Landes. Das Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft Köln hat erstmals einen Humankapitalindikator entwickelt, der die Ausstattung Deutschlands mit Humankapital im Vergleich zu 25 anderen OECD-Ländern darstellt. Im Gesamtranking nimmt Deutschland nur einen Platz im hinteren Mittelfeld ein. Die Ergebnisse zeigen zwar, dass sich die deutsche Bevölkerung gegenwärtig noch durch einen relativ hohen Humankapitalbestand auszeichnet, dieser stagniert jedoch seit einigen Jahren. Viele andere Länder konnten sich dagegen im Zeitraum 1994 bis 2004 deutlich verbessern. Deutschland schneidet sowohl bei der Aktualisierung als auch bei der Nutzung des Humankapitals im Vergleich zu anderen Ländern schlecht ab.
