Digitalisierung des stationären Einzelhandels vor und nach der ersten Corona-Welle am Beispiel der Stadt Xanten (Niederrhein)

Abstract

Am linken Niederrhein, am westlichen Rand Nordrhein-Westfalens liegt Xanten. Die Innenstadt beleben Geschäfte mit einem vielfältigen Branchenmix. Eine aktuelle Case Study untersucht und vergleicht den Digitalisierungsstand des Einzelhandels in der Innenstadt von Xanten vor und nach der ersten Corona-Welle. Insgesamt wurden knapp 200 Betriebe im zentralen Versorgungsbereich von Xanten erfasst. Das Fazit: Zwar kann die Corona-Krise als Beschleuniger der Digitalisierung gelten, doch die Xantener Fallstudie zeigt, dass der dortige Einzelhandel von einem sprunghaften Ausbau weit entfernt ist. Vor allem die Zahl der Online-Shops hat sich im Untersuchungszeitraum nur minimal erhöht.
