Abstract

The size distributions of(CsI)nCs+,$({\rm MgO})_n^+ ({\rm MgO})_n {\rm Mg}^+$, and$({\rm Hg})_n M_j^+$(M:alkali metal,j=1, 2, 3, 4, 5) clusters were obtained using secondary-ion mass spectrometry. The sizes of stable neutral clusters(CsI)nand(Hg)nclusters were determined from the mass spectra of cluster ions(CsI)nCs+and(Hg)nM+. The magic numbers of$({\rm Hg})_n {\rm K}_3^+$clusters were identical to those of van der Waals type clusters. It is believed that the shell closing cluster${\rm K}_3^+$is at the center of complex clusters$({\rm Hg})_n {\rm K}_3^+$. The$({\rm Hg})_n {\rm K}_4^+$clusters were believed to have electronic shell structures from the magic numbers.
