Radiocarbon dating by high‐sensitivity liquid scintillation counting of wood from the Fox permafrost tunnel near Fairbanks, Alaska

Abstract

An age of 43 ka BP for a willow stump from near the top of the Goldstream Formation indicates that the wood is not part of the Eva Interglacial Forest Bed (Sangamon). Instead, the wood represents reworking of the top of the Fox Gravel by small streams at that time, similar to that which occurred elsewhere in the region to preserve wood in the Cripple Gravel and Fox Gravel.
