Tourismus trotz anhaltender Teuerung wieder deutlich erstarkt

Abstract

Mit dem Auslaufen der COVID-19-Maßnahmen ab Februar 2022 zog die touristische Nachfrage in Österreich stetig an. Bei den internationalen Gästen bestand 2022 aber noch deutlich größerer Aufholbedarf als bei den Binnenreisenden (Nächtigungen –13,1% zu –2,7%, insgesamt –10,3%; jeweils gegenüber 2019). Während sich im Sommer 2022 die Lücke zur Vorkrisensaison schon beinahe schloss (–1,4%), bestanden in den Wintermonaten des Jahres 2022 noch beträchtliche Rückstände (Jänner bis April 2019/2022 –23,0%, November und Dezember 2018/2022 –5,8%). Im Winter 2022/23 (November 2022 bis April 2023) schrumpfte die Nächtigungslücke auf 4,9%. Obwohl die mengenmäßige Nachfrage im Sommer 2023 sogar den Höchstwert von 2019 übertreffen (Nächtigungen +1,5%; Schätzung) und so im Gesamtjahr 2023 die zweitbeste Bilanz nach 2019 erbringen könnte (–1,5%), dürften die anhaltend hohe Teuerung sowie die Konjunkturschwäche in Österreich und anderen europäischen Ländern, insbesondere in Deutschland, die Ausgabenfreudigkeit der privaten Haushalte merklich dämpfen.
