Abstract

In Kombination mit einer umfassenden Strukturreform brachte die Wirtschaftspolitik der 1970er-Jahre Österreich einen umfassenden Modernisierungsschub sowie eine signifikante Wohlstandszunahme. Dieser Umstand ist umso bemerkenswerter, als dieses Jahrzehnt geprägt war durch die Folgen des Zusammenbruchs des Systems fester Wechselkurse von Bretton Woods und die Erdölpreiskrisen in den Jahren 1973 und 1979. Den aus diesen tiefgreifenden Umbrüchen resultierenden Herausforderungen, namentlich der steigenden Arbeitslosigkeit und der Inflation, begegnete die österreichische Regierung mit einem pragmatischen Policy Mix, der unter dem Begriff "Austro-Keynesianismus" aufgrund seiner Erfolge auch internationale Anerkennung fand.
