Wirtschaftsforschung zwischen Empirie, Theorie und Politik. Neupositionierung des WIFO nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg

Abstract

Die empirische Wirtschaftsforschung zieht ihre Existenzberechtigung aus der Brückenfunktion zwischen ökonomischer Theorie, empirischer Evidenz und Wirtschaftspolitik. Um die Grundlagen für eine evidenzbasierte Wirtschaftspolitik bereitstellen zu können, sind zuverlässige Daten, intelligente kontextgeleitete Interpretation sowie Rezeptionsbereitschaft der wirtschaftspolitischen Entscheidungsträger wichtige Voraussetzungen. Im Zeitablauf hat sich die Bedeutung, die diesen drei Eckpunkten der Wirtschaftsforschung im WIFO beigemessen wurde, substantiell geändert. Mit der Gewichtsverlagerung, die bis zu einem gewissen Grad den Wandel der Wirtschaftsordnung und die Entwicklung der ökonomischen Theorie widerspiegelt, hat sich auch das WIFO von einem "Kronzeugen" der österreichischen Wirtschaftsentwicklung zu einem "Kompass" der Wirtschaftspolitik weiterentwickelt.
