Abstract

Auch zu Jahresbeginn 2004 wuchs die Produktion in Österreich verhalten. Im WIFO-Konjunkturtest meldeten die Unternehmen der Sachgütererzeugung per Saldo weiterhin eine Zunahme der Produktion, allerdings hat sich der Überhang der positiven Meldungen gegenüber dem Herbst 2003 verringert. Während im Tiefbau die Auftragslage neuerlich günstig eingeschätzt wurde, schwächt sich die Nachfrage im Hochbau etwas ab. Enttäuschend entwickelte sich zu Jahresbeginn der Umsatz im Einzelhandel – er übertraf das Ergebnis des Vorjahres real nicht, Großhandel und Kfz-Handel meldeten sogar einen Rückgang. Hingegen verlief die Wintersaison im Tourismus zufriedenstellend. Das schwache Produktionswachstum reicht bei weiterhin reger Ausweitung des Arbeitskräfteangebotes nicht aus, um die Arbeitslosigkeit zu senken.
