Auswirkungen der EU-Erweiterung auf den Verkehr in Österreich

Abstract

Die Beschleunigung des Wirtschaftswachstums, wie sie mit der EU-Integration der MOEL zu erwarten ist, wird den touristischen Verkehr aus den Beitrittsländern beleben. Zusätzlichen Personenverkehr hat die Freizügigkeit der Arbeitskräfte zur Folge. Vor allem der tägliche Berufspendlerverkehr wird sich in den östlichen Grenzregionen Österreichs verstärken. Aber auch die in den westlichen EU-Ländern beschäftigten Bürger der Beitrittsländer werden als Wochen- oder Monatspendler sowie zu den Haupturlaubsterminen Österreichs Straßennetz frequentieren. Die Teilnahme am Binnenmarkt erhöht das Wachstum des Außenhandels der Beitrittsländer mit der EU. Eine Liberalisierung des grenzüberschreitenden Lkw-Verkehrs schlägt sich in einem kräftigen Anstieg des Anteils des Straßengüterverkehrs am Gesamtaufkommen nieder. Auf Österreichs Straßen würde sich der Wechselverkehr mit den fünf ostmitteleuropäischen Beitrittsländern gemäß der vorliegenden Prognose bis zum Jahr 2015 vervierfachen, der Transitverkehr verfünffachen.
