Entwicklung der Warendirektimporte zwischen 1991 und 1996

Abstract

Warendirektimporte umfassen nicht nur Kaufkraftflüsse ins benachbarte Ausland, sondern auch Einkäufe am Urlaubsort. Die Einkaufsausgaben der Österreicher im Ausland nahmen 1993 und 1994 mit der Belebung der Tourismusnachfrage deutlich zu – eine Tendenz, die sich 1995 in der Folge des EU-Beitritts und der Lira-Abwertung verstärkte. 1995 waren sie um rund 12 Mrd. S höher als 1991. 1996 sanken die Warendirektimporte um etwa 1,5 Mrd. S, weil der Lirakurs wieder anzog und die kurzfristigen EU-Effekte abebbten. Nach ersten Meldungen waren sie auch 1997 rückläufig. Die insgesamt deutliche Steigerung der Ausgaben der Österreicher im Ausland in den neunziger Jahren war eher einer steigenden Reiseintensität der Österreicher zuzuschreiben als einer Wettbewerbsschwäche des heimischen Handels.
