Ökonomische Bedeutung und Problematik der Verschuldung privater Haushalte

Abstract

Mit einer am Brutto-Inlandsprodukt gemessenen Verschuldungsintensität von 36% ist die österreichische Haushaltsverschuldung im Vergleich mit anderen OECD-Ländern relativ niedrig. Ein Verschuldungsstand von 721 Mrd. S zu Jahresende 1991 läßt heute aber auch in Österreich die Vernachlässigung von Verschuldungsproblemen nicht mehr zu. Makroökonomisch ist die Kreditfinanzierung für Güternachfrage, Beschäftigung und Vermögensbildung von großer Bedeutung. Das wird insbesondere durch den mit 62,2% hohen Anteil der Wohnbauverschuldung unterstrichen. 15% der erwachsenen Österreicher geben an, aus einem Bankkredit verschuldet zu sein. Rund 2% dieser Kredite befinden sich in Rechtverfolgung und sind als "Problemfälle" anzusehen.
