Abstract

The purpose of the present paper is to outline the prerequisites for a successful digital transformation of Bulgarian enterprises. Several related evaluation methodologies are examined in an analytical perspective and via a comparative approach. Thus, it appears that Bulgaria is lagging behind in terms of infrastructure that enables digitalization, as is the case with the relevantly low levels of digital skills and training, or institutional capacity. However, the potential economic benefits of a broad integration of digital technologies might be substantial, providing a driver as well for sustained growth. A targeted approach towards the implementation of appropriate measures at different levels (macro- and micro-) might be instrumental in this respect.
