The Mission of Farmers Markets - Clean Food and Sustainable Development

Abstract

The paper examines the development of farmers markets in Bulgaria as a good practice for establishing a new type of relationships between producers and consumers of farm products and as a business model with the potential to contribute to achieving sustainable development. Issues about the nature of the farmers markets, the objectives and the way of functioning are discussed through key examples and initiatives organized in the country. The contemporary trends, challenges and problems in the consolidation of the farmers markets are presented, and main conclusions are summarized on the necessary support and actions for the promotion of the farmers markets.
