The Region as a Determinant of Health Inequalities

Abstract

The region can be considered as a factor influencing health inequalities because it creates the context for work, education and income of individuals. The aim of the study is to analyse the importance of the region and regional development for the arising, deepening and reduction of health inequalities. Different studies addressing the geographical area as a determinant of health and health inequalities are summarised. Theories and models explaining how socio-economic factors interact and influence on health at the individual and regional level are presented.
