Abstract

Telecommunications are identified as one of the main factors for achieving economic growth. Major routes and telecommunication links between the continents pass through the Balkans. The infrastructure of individual countries is heterogeneous in both technical and technological terms. The distribution of subscribers on individual telecommunication networks as well as the distribution of different types of telecommunication services holds the specifics of each of the countries. In some countries, the privatization processes of the "historical operators" has not yet been completed. It is not possible to speak of the "same" market structure for individual types of services defined by both "sales revenue" and "number of subscribers". The long-term impact of telecommunications on the economic growth of individual Balkan countries can not be estimated due to the short history of some of the indicators. This publication presents the results of a retrospective analysis of the telecommunication services market in the countries of the Balkan Peninsula. The scientific objective of this document is to highlight the trends in the main telecoms (electronic communications and networks) indicators of the individual Balkan countries and based on this to develop medium-term forecasts. The analysis is based on the active subscribers of the telecommunication networks and the use of the networks using the methods and means of retrospective analysis. The place and role of the Telecommunications sector in the economies of the individual countries is assessed. The survey was conducted for the period 2007 to 2017. The start of the study is in line with the European Commission's Recommendation C (2007) 5406 in relation to Directive 2002/21 / EC. The information is provided by the ITU, Euromonitor, World Bank and Eurostat electronic databases. The calculations in this publication are based on Microsoft Excel, EViews 10. Based on a retrospective analysis, forecasts have been created for the development of individual telecommunication networks - the expected number of users; the provided services; expected revenue from sales.
