Abstract

The economic aspects of the medical care market are not easily analyzed with traditional economic theory. In this article, a relatively recent revision of the traditional theory of consumer choice is used to analyze some of the phenomena that have been observed in this market. The comparative static implications of the model are discussed in detail and the implications of the model in the medical care market are studied. Particular attention is devoted to the type of medical care delivery system selected by the consumer.
