Abstract

The main purpose of this work is to quantify the determinants of residential electricity consumption in the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. This is because Nuevo León is one of the states that present high levels of electricity consumption in the country. To do this we use a Cobb-Douglas demand function with time series from 1993 to 2010. The results indicate that income, number of users and temperature were the most important variables in explaining the household electricity consumption in this region
