L’Etat providence européen : leçons américaines

Abstract

Beaucoup d’Européens s’interrogent sur l’avenir de leur système social. Un éclairage original et stimulant, mais pouvant susciter des controverses, est proposé dans un ouvrage écrit par deux économistes, professeurs à Harvard, Alberto Alesina et Edward L. Glaeser. Leur livre répond à une question majeure : pourquoi l’Etat providence est-il plus important en Europe qu’aux USA ? Nous proposons ici un compte rendu de ce travail : matière à réflexion alors que nous baignons dans la « réforme ».
