Abstract

The actual dominant economic model, based on intensive exploitation of natural resources for massive production of goods and services, has seriously affected the planet´s environment, home and source of sustenance of all living beings, forcing its load capacity and its resilience. In this work, the conceptual framework of Industrial Ecology, as an emergent model in sustainable development paradigms and the analytical tools for its implementation are shown; a study of Kalundborg Eco-Industrial Park, as an emblematic relevant example of its practical application is presented; a critical analysis is made of benefits and possible difficulties for the design and successful operation of an Eco-Industrial Park and critics to the Industrial Ecology approach are presented.
