Abstract

This paper specifies a multidimensional unit of measure in order to determine the degree of internationalization of companies in the national spirits industry using the methodology of Lazarsfeld of empirical indices. The construction of such index is carried out in two phases. The first examines and calculates traditional simple indicators that, when contrasted with the definition of internationalization, shows the need for a second phase. The second phase deals with the construction of an index of internationalization (iiei) of industrial enterprises that results from the aggregation of the traditional simple indicators computed in the previous phase. The empirical evidence shows Licorerías Unidas/Diageo of Venezuela as the company with the greatest internationalization´s index. In the beer industry, the greatest index belongs to Cervecería Polar.
