Abstract

This study estimates a Cobb-Douglas production function using panel data methodology. The aim was to analyze foreign direct investment (FDI) in the manufacturing industry in Brazil in the 1996-2009 period, observing its interaction with the workforce employed and their respective wages in the selected sectors, as well as the influence of the Selic rate and the exchange rate. The results suggest that FDI flow sought to take advantage of the little qualified worker’s wages differential and abundant in the industrial sector, and of the importance of monetary policy in attracting FDI in Brazil after the Real Plan.
