O uso da inovação como estratégia competitiva no mercado de defensivos agrícolas no Brasil

Abstract

This work aimed to analyze the relationship between innovation and competitive advantages and to investigate how the agrochemicals companies stablish their competitive strategies. For this, it was performed a characterization of the market structure, of the innovation systems and of the competitive strategies developed by the agrochemical industry. It was found that the agrochemicals market in Brazil is strongly concentrated, with barriers-to-entry well stablished by the market-leading companies, that the innovation process of the industry is capital-intensive and that the commercialization of patented products is the main way of achieving competitive advantages. The conclusion was that the differentiation obtained by the innovation process enables the market-leading companies to develop sophisticated strategies of pricing, market segmentation, costumers marketing and product portfolio management, which also determine strikingly the capacity to create and to sustain competitive advantages.
