La estimación empírica de la demanda de dinero en Bolivia

Abstract

La teoría del comportamiento de los saldos monetarios no ha merecido, hasta ahora, estudio alguno en la economía boliviana, mostrando con ello un vacío en un tema que tiene un trayecto de comprobaciones empíricas no siempre presentes en otros tópicos de la ciencia económica. La importancia cada vez mayor, que se le otorga a las variables monetarias en el desenvolvimiento de los fenómenos económicos, y el hecho de que se considere a Bolivia como un país de menor desarrollo relativo, hace interesante experimentar en él la teoría del comportamiento de los saldos monetarios reales. La teoría plantea que su comportamiento no es errático, más bien, su trayectoria responde fundamentalmente a modificaciones y cambios en dos variables: una, que manifiesta el costo de poseer o mantener saldos monetarios y la otra, que fija el límite al cual debe su tenencia sujetarse.
