Función de captura en la pesquería pelágica del norte chileno: una estimación de panel

Abstract

Este trabajo es pionero en estimar funciones de captura de tipo Cobb-Douglas para la pesquería pelágica del norte chileno. Se usa un panel con datos de captura y esfuerzo pesquero anuales para la flota industrial que operaba en la zona entre 1985-93. La riqueza de datos a nivel de corte transversal permite testear diferencias en la tecnología de captura para barcos de distinto tamaño. Los resultados obtenidos sugieren que el nivel de biomasa afecta en forma estadísticamente significativa las capturas a nivel de barco, sobre todo para la categoría de barcos de menor tamaño. Sin embargo, la estimación de estos efectos para el caso de barcos industriales más grandes es más imprecisa. Los barcos de menor tamaño presentan retornos decrecientes en el uso de factores variables, aproximados en nuestro análisis por el número de viajes anules de pesca. Para el caso de barcos de mayor tamaño (el modal de la muestra) la evidencia empírica señala la presencia de retornos crecientes en el uso de factores variable
