Perspectivas sobre la tecnología y el capital en países subdesarrollados

Abstract

Como consecuencia de más de dos décadas de trabajo y observación de economías subdesarrolladas, siento que he aprendido un número de lecciones que me gustaría compartir. La primera de éstas tiene que ver con el hecho de que hay poca tendencia a que la tasa de retorno al capital, tanto sociales como privadas, sean mayores en los países subdesarrollados de lo que lo son en los centros industriales de mayor desarrollo. La segunda lección es que es errada la idea de que los países subdesarrollados están condenados por la tecnología moderna a usar capital y trabajo en proporciones muy similares a las que utilizan las economías avanzadas. Por último, el hecho de que la información en los países en desarrollo es limitada, tanto en cantidad como en calidad, ha influido en la incursión de más economistas en el análisis e investigación sobre los países en desarrollo.
