Abstract

The first two decades of the 2000s were marked by economic upheavals that intensified existing problems and created new fractures and tensions, leading to unprecedented global economic, social, and geopolitical imbalances. While there have been profound transformations in economic and social systems, such as the digital and technological revolution and an increase in overall well-being, neoliberal globalization has also exacerbated income inequalities within and between countries, concentrating wealth in the hands of a few and leaving many in extreme poverty and poor living conditions. The book ÒLa sfida dellÕuguaglianza. Democrazia economica e futuro del capitalismoÓ (The Challenge of Equality: Economic Democracy and the Future of Capitalism) edited by Enrica Chiappero Martinetti explores whether there is room for equity and social justice in a global society. It presents a reduced and revised version of the 55th Annal of the Feltrinelli Foundation, titled ÒSocial Justice in a Global Society: Toward New Forms of Economic Democracy for Sustainable Development,Ó published in November 2021.
