Understanding cost-effectiveness and benefit-cost analysis using data on school feeding and education assistance programmes in Nigeria

Abstract

Knowledge about the concept and the application of benefit-cost analysis (BCA) and cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) can help policy makers to formulate and implement programmes that improve the lives of the citizens, especially the poor. This paper presents an example of a BCA and CEA of education interventions using data from the home-grown school feeding and the education assistance programmes, implemented in Nigeria, as well as information on impacts gathered through experts' opinion. We hope that this paper will contribute to a better understanding of how the analysis could be performed and be used to inform policy in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa more broadly.
