Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die digitale Zukunft Deutschlands wird von Kritikern eher düster gesehen. Ziele, die Datenversorgung flächendeckend zu beschleunigen, konnten nicht erreicht werden. Die tatsächliche Nachfrage nach besonders hohen Datenübertragungsraten schöpft allerdings die Kapazitäten keineswegs aus. Aktionismus ist also nicht erforderlich. Vielmehr sollte sich die Politik auf langfristig erreichbare Ziele und dabei auf die beste und zukunftsfähigste Technologie konzentrieren. Am effizientesten im Sinne eines bedarfsgerechten und fiskalisch nachhaltigen Ausbaus wäre es, eine entsprechende „Glasfaserinfrastruktur“ marktgetrieben auszubauen, eine Strategie, die durch günstige Rahmenbedingungen gestärkt werden sollte. Direkte staatliche Förderung sollte sich auf das Schließen von Versorgungslücken beschränken.
