Abstract

This paper deals with the economic valuation of the electric energy generation system’s technological change in Mexico. Such change is aimed at reducing the pollution resulting from the electric energy generation process, and/or to optimize its operating and production costs, through the substitution of the carbo-electric energy generation system, for a nucleo-electric one, using different types of real options, namely, a technological change real option and a project expansion one. In order to calculate the term structure of risk free interest rate, the short rate model proposed by Cox, Toss and Rubinstein (1979) is used.
