Abstract

The objective of the research is to forecast the closing price BIMBO and HERDEZ stocks, both companies quote in the food sector of the Mexican Stock Market, using ARIMA time series models, in order to achieve adequate decision-making that generates profits when investing in portfolios straddle of high volatility and short straddle of low volatility. The results show a couple of forecasts using ARIMA models for the abovementioned companies. Regarding the viability of the portfolios, seven straddles and twenty-three short straddles were observed for BIMBO, and eight straddles and twentytwo short straddles were determined for HERDEZ. Also, a prevalence of low volatility in the behavior of closing prices is observed for both companies. It is recommended to extend the research to other types of companies in the food sector. This research is limited to the construction of portfolios with only two financial options using the Black-Scholes model. It is concluded that the investor, to obtain profits, must generate adequate investment decisions in their volatility portfolios with financial options through forecasts considering up to thirty days.
