Abstract

We analyse the origin of Lérida's almudí (cereal market of the city), its mechanism and its role in the region. Based on the mercurial of Lérida we performed a new series of wheat prices based on the agricultural year and using five different markets, one per week. Finally, following the same methodology, we present a first comparative study for the period 1757/58 - 1807/08 of Barcelona and Lérida prices. The main data used are prices and the acta of Lérida's city council.
