Abstract

The innovative process of fishing Spanish companies during the 20th century centred on the diffusion of new technologies developed by companies of other sectors. Innovations concerned the productive process and were introduced by means of the acquisition of machinery and other inputs by the aim to obtain major levels of productivity and/or a cost reduction, The adoption of the engines diesel, of the steel-like material of construction of hulls and the echosounding like element of detection of shoals 01 fishing on the part of the Spanish's distant water fishing were important innovations incorporated during the period 1931-1971. We try to establish, on the one hand, the paths of diffusion followed by the above mentioned innovations and, on the other hand, the factors that determined the above mentioned paths.
