Coyuntura económica, crédito agrícola y cambio social en Navarra, 1750-1850

Abstract

The historical change of the instruments of credit with which rural word financed its productive activities is a good indicator of the economic cycles by which the Navarrese agriculture went through in the change from a developed feudalism to capitalism Regarding supply, the substitution of census (censo) for mortgage debts (obligaciones) reflected the success of land middle class in an expansive market, as long as ecclesiastic moneylenders were eliminated. From the demand's perspective, the liberal revolution social change promoted the prospects of large and middle scale landowners, whereas peasants with scarce or no land enpured an expensive capital, they became proletarians or emigrated.
