Abstract

The paper deals with the shadow economy-related risks generated with the development of digital technologies. The subject of the research is the risks of the illegal labor market, “hidden” information resources and crypto-currencies as elements that complicate control and contribute to the development of the shadow economy. The relevance of this problem is due, first, to the current need to study and forecast the shadow economy risks in the context of business digitalization in order to seek ways to reduce the size and neutralize the negative consequences for the state and businesses; and second, to the increasing interdependence between the level of technological development and size of the shadow economy. The purposes of the paper were to establish the relationship between the shadow economy and the digital environment and to develop proposals to help business minimize the shadow economy risks under the digitalization conditions.A risk forecast has been made and it is concluded that, unless appropriate measures are taken, digitalization will only strengthen the shadow labor and capital markets making it possible to use uncontrolled markets for criminal and illegal purposes, and inflict significant damage to Russia’s economic security.
