Abstract

The paper approaches multidisciplinary a topic with deep economic, social and medical implications. The article begins with a conceptual and retrospective introduction on gambling. The second section outlines global and national statistics for some relevant landmarks of gambling activities. The third section describes some instrument of psychological diagnosis and statistical measurement of gambling dependency. Some conclusions emphasizing the inconsistency of statistical data and the necessity of sociological research in the near future, are a brief end of the paper.
