Abstract

This paper is focused on the development of a competition micro-cycle adapted to the specific characteristics of the European U19 Rugby Championship, allowing the capitalization of fitness in competitions. The research hypothesis consists in the fact that the balanced organization of the competition micro-cycle, in order to ensure the restoration of the effort capacity and improvement of the deficiencies in the performance of the team, will induce an increased performance capacity. The research was conducted in October 2010, during the European U19 Rugby Championship. The team consisted of 26 players: 14 forwards and 12 backs. The research outcomes show two identical competition micro-cycles, reflecting the emphasis given to the restoration of the effort capacity within the first 36 hours after the game, and to the improvement of technical and tactical deficiencies, while within the following 36 hours the emphasis is on overcompensation. The research findings confirm the hypothesis in the light of the results of the national team at the European Championship. The emphasis on recovery sequences within the micro-cycle, and the use of cryotherapy are alternatives to quick recovery of homeostasis. Focus on physical exercise is mandatory for an integrated training, as well as the use of specific rugby props in the gym, within an intensive training regime.
