A Brief History of the Physical Education and Sport Department at 110 Years Anniversary of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies

Abstract

This article is a recollection of the most important facts, events, and personalities that marked the history of physical and sports education at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. More than a century has passed since 1918, when the first student sports association was founded in our university. In the academic year 1951-1952, physical education was included in the study curriculum. 1996 marked a milestone in diversifying the range of physical activities and sports offered to ASE students with the construction of a new sports facility. The two regular basketball and volleyball courts opened the way for organising competitions between the UES faculties teams. Over time the university has been represented with good results in students' national competitions of athletics, basketball, football, handball, judo, swimming, chess, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball.
