Abstract

In the article the authors study the experience of science internationalization in the EU and BRICS countries in order to answer the question why internationalization of Russian science is rather slow. The authors’ conclusions about international practices of internationalization and support of international competitiveness in science are based on analyzing the real-time data on publication activity, current strategic documents and programs for scientific development in Russia, the EU and BRICS. The article presents the positions of Russian Federation in the international integration of science. In the conclusion the authors emphasize the important role of sufficient financing scientific researches in terms of stimulating internationalization, and the necessity for a detailed study of the EU experience in implementing, monitoring and correcting internationalization programs, which may become a source of already proven ideas and mechanisms, the use of which could contribute to the development of an effective model for science internationalization in Russia.
