Abstract

The article studies the ontological and axiological ways of introducing the principle of personalism from the view point of solving the problem of interpersonal communication in European theism and Russian religious philosophy of the XIX—XX centuries. The ontological way of introducing personalism suggests, firstly, solipsism, meaning humility in front of a person’s ontological loneliness; secondly, harmony predestined by God, implying faith in God; thirdly, transcendental-phenomenological reduction, which requires recognizing the transcendental. The axiological way implies defining one Self through another. In a pessimistic version, the solution to the problem of interpersonal communication is as follows: either an ontologically deep human personality and solipsism, or a dialogue between I and the Other with no depth of human personality. This means that without recognizing the value element in the being of an individual person, interpersonal communication is impossible.
