Abstract

The author gives the definition of “mass media hostility discourse” and describes the universal structure of this theory. In the basis of the “hostility discourse” there is the definition of hostility which is formed from three approaches: agonal, axiological and the theory of intergroup relations. The basis for forming the theory of “mass media hostility discourse” were the theories of “hostility language”, “enemy image”, in-group and out-group discourse, intolerant and agonal discourse. Prevalence of the discourse-analysis method resulted in forming a universal notion of “mass media hostility discourse”. The important features of “mass media hostility discourse” are hostile rhetoric and emotiveness.
