Abstract

The article unleashes the creative and destructive potential of ascetical practice. On the one hand, ascesis is the practice of taking care of yourself which is aimed at searching internal harmony through getting rid of mass social prejudices impact. On the other hand, it may result in escapism, escaping from solving real problems of human existence. In this case ascetism prevents a person from selfcognition and results in a wrongheaded view of yourself, slows down spiritual growth (acquisition of spiritual maturity).
