Abstract

The article considers the problem of criteria in defining agonality. Despite the fact that there are a lot of works devoted to agonality there is no clear definition of agonality. Most often it is implicitely understood as a synonym to competition, opposition, fighting in a broad sense of the word as an ontological principle. In the given article the author justifies his position that identification of agonality with competition, opposition, fighting is not appropriate. The author states that agonality and competition, opposition, fighting are in asymmetric relations: any agonality is competition, fighting but not any competition, fighting is agonality. On the basis of analyzing sources and literature the author explicates criteria of agonality, shows its essential features and characteristics.
