Abstract

WasteWater Treatment Plant of Galati municipality ensure complete treatment of municipal wastewater and sludge result, having a capacity of max. 112.870 cubic meters / day, including both mechanical and biological stage with advanced treatment to remove phosphorus and nitrogen. Through Sectoral Operational Programme Environment 2007-2013, Priority Axis 1 " Expansion and modernization of water system and wastewater " it has acquired a sludge drying equipment in wastewater treatment plant of Galati municipality , sludge dewatering equipment that assure up to 90 % dry substance. In recent years, there were discussed several ways of removing sludge generated from municipal sewage treatment plant . Some of ways has been storage at ecological depot or usage as organic fertilizer in agriculture. Another alternative embodiment of this method is represented by incineration. At this time there are discussions between the Galati water operator representatives, the Municipality of Galati representatives , the sanitation operator Ecosal Galati and the operator of municipal heating Calorgal Galati, on promotion and implementation of the strategy heating of the municipality through creating district heating plants powered by natural gas and biomass. The main idea it is related to the fact that the gas generated from landfill garbage, which performed analysis has a very high proportion of methane, to be collected and pumped through a compressor in municipal sewage treatment plant, and to be desulphurised in order to be used in feeding the sludge dryer. The solution to collect and bring biogas from landfill to treatment plant is feasible due to the distance quite small between the warehouse and treatment plant, until 2 km. The viability of this solution results by cost-benefit analysis ,which shows that the investment made for this project can be amortized in less than two years.
